Spring has sprung! Got the spring cleaning fever at your house? Did you know your IT equipment rooms need spring cleaning as well?
Hardware Spring Clean
- Microfiber Cloth
- Compressed Air
- Isopropyl Alcohol
- Cotton Swabs
Do It Yourself
- Power down and unplug your computer and all devices to be cleaned.
- Use a can of compressed air to blast dirt off of keyboards and ports.
- Next, use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe down the outside of your machine and any additional equipment: mouses, keyboards, external speakers, etc.
- Cotton swabs can be dipped, lightly, in the isopropyl alcohol and can help you clear away built-up dirt and grime in between the keys or in crevices on your equipment.
The inside of your CPU where the fans are collect all sorts of dust and debris. If you feel comfortable opening up your CPU and taking a look underneath, grab that can of compressed air and give the area a little TLC. If not, PCS can help with a little Spring Clean of all your electronic equipment.
Think home and office. Where do you store your electronics? What do your equipment closets look like? Dusty? Unorganized? Tangled mess of cords? Now’s the time of year to address potential, hidden disaster areas. Clean, cull out, and label all of your equipment. Your electronic equipment will continue to run and be reliable with routine maintenance and cleaning.
Software Spring Clean
How about your files and apps on your devices? When was the last time you cleaned up storage space and deleted old or outdated files or apps? Think of spring as a time to tidy up all of your chaos. When you store excess software, files, or data that you no longer use on your device it can dramatically slow down computing time.
With the digital spring clean complete, you can power your computer back up and enjoy the benefits of your rejuvenated system—at least until the same time next year.
